3 cups of all purpose flour 

3 tbsp ground flax seeds

250 ml warm water

3 tsp dry instant yeast

1 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp salt


700g ground beef

1 large onion

1 clove of garlic

1 or 2 eggs

1 tsp dijon mustard

salt, pepper ( and any spice of your liking)


  • to make the buns pour cup of warm water to the large bowl, add yeast and sugar and stir once just to activate the yeast, it will take about 10 min to bloom
  • add 1 cup of flour, flax seeds, olive oil and salt and mix well, then gradually add the rest of the flour half a cup at a time until it becomes doughy
  • transfer to a flat surface and knead for 5-10 min add more flour if your dough is sticky
  • then let it rest in the bowl covered for about 45 min or until it double in size
  • punch down the dough and transfer on the flat surface again and cut into 6 even pieces
  • knead each piece into small round buns place on the tray with parchment paper and cover with plastic wrap and let it double in size again for about 40-45 min
  • preheat oven to 180'C 
  • once risen brush your buns with melted butter and bake in the oven for about 20 min or until slightly golden on top
  • let it cool completely before slicing and filling
  • to make the burgers mix all the burger ingredients together in a large bowl then shape mixture into burgers and place on the grill for abut 8 min per side or 25 min in the oven flipping them half way 
  • serve the burgers on the flax buns with your choice of toppings ( salad, tomato, onion, sunny side up egg..etc) and with the side of carrot fries
